We must not rely on schools alone to meet the challenge of educating our students; the whole community must be engaged. Student mobility, poor health, unequal access to learning opportunities during non-school hours, and a host of other non-school factors impact the ability of our students to succeed in the classroom. Our education system is ill equipped to address the range of needs that students bring with them to school. Therefore, strong partnerships among communities, schools and families must be utilized to meet the holistic needs of our students.
