Childhood Obesity

More than one in three American children and adolescents is either obese or at risk of becoming obese. First Focus believes we can and must combat what the federal Institute of Medicine has called a “public health crisis” by:

  • Establishing a White House conference on childhood obesity. A White House conference would send a strong message of national leadership on this critical issue.
  • Investing in research, evaluation and education. The Administration and Congress should invest in critically important research on childhood obesity and best practices to prevent it.
  • Providing funding for childhood obesity prevention. Congress should restore funding to the Centers for Disease Control and programs like VERB which have proven effective in helping to reduce childhood obesity.
