Children's Budget Summit

July 20, 2007

Objective: To discuss and create collective action steps to reverse the shrinking share of funding for children in the federal budget.

Who: Speakers will include: 

    U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI)
A leader on defense, education, and health care issues, Senator Reed is a senior member of the Armed Services Committee, the Appropriations Committee and a former Army Ranger.

    Dr. Frank Luntz, Luntz, Maslansky Strategic Research
Dr. Luntz, one of the most highly regarded communication professionals in America today, will offer new public opinion research on what language is most effectively used to communicate on children’s issues.

    Gene Steuerle, Urban Institute
Mr. Steuerle will provide a synopsis of the dwindling share of children’s spending in the federal budget.

    Kristen Grimm, Spitfire Strategies
Author of “Finding the Activation Point” Kristen Grimm bridges the gap between support for children’s issues and action, with tips and strategies to engage and activate your audience.

    Bruce Lesley, President, First Focus
Mr. Lesley will facilitate a discussion around the action steps necessary to make children a priority in the federal budget.

    Elizabeth Burke Bryant, Rhode Island KIDS Count
Ms. Burke Bryant will discuss the success of Rhode Island’s KIDS Count in affecting the policies of the RIte Care program.
