Medicaid provides health coverage, with remarkable success, to 60 million of our nation’s most vulnerable citizens: primarily children in very low-income families, adults with significant disabilities, and elderly individuals who are cared for in long term care facilities. For 35 million children, Medicaid and its companion program, CHIP (the Children’s Health Insurance Program) are essential lifelines, insuring one-third of all children the U.S.
