June marks the end of the school year for most students in Kindergarten through 12th grade and the beginning of summer break. Unfortunately, with summer break also comes a growth of academic achievement gaps and often means children aren’t receiving important nutrition assistance normally found in free and reduced price school meals. Though there are local, state, and federal initiatives intended to mitigate these negative effects, we can and should do more.
