On June 3, 2013, Senator Mikulski, Senator Burr, Senator Harkin and Senator Alexander introduced the Child Care and Development Block Grant Act of 2013 (S.1086), a bill to address the long overdue reauthorization of the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG). This is a bipartisan effort to improve the health and safety of children whose families use child care subsidies to help pay for child care. The reauthorization bill has three major sections: state plan, improving quality of child care; and background checks. The first two sections make changes to the underlying statue, while the background checks section is a new requirement for states that participate in CCDBG. The specific provisions of all three sections are discussed in detail in the fact sheet.
