Megan Curran
Senior Director, Family Economics
MeganC[at]firstfocus.net
Megan serves as the Senior Director for Family Economics at First Focus. In this role, she aims to increase federal investment in economic supports, such as tax credits, that can make a dramatic difference in low-income family budgets and lift children and families out of poverty.
Megan’s experience combines policy work and direct service provision for low-income families both in the U.S. and abroad. In college, she served as co-director of the student-run Bronx housing and employment drop-in center, LIFT, before moving to the U.K. for a number of years. Following completion of her graduate degree in Scotland, Megan worked as a parliamentary researcher and constituency caseworker for Helen Eadie MSP, a member of the Scottish Parliament. During her time in the U.K., she also assisted the women’s organization, Engender, in the implementation of their new women and poverty project.
Immediately prior to joining First Focus, Megan served as a Women’s Research and Education Institute (WREI) Congressional Fellow in the office of Congressman Pete Stark (CA) working on child and family policy, particularly on issues related to the work of the House Ways and Means Income Security Subcommittee. She holds an L.L.M. from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and a B.A. from Fordham University in New York.
