Madeline Daniels Senior Director

Madeline Daniels is Senior Director of Communications at First Focus. Madeline manages the organization's digital content and social networking. She also follows policy issues related to consumer protections for children.

Madeline's media relations for First Focus has resulted in coverage in The New York Times, The Washington Post, POLITICO, and many other local and national sources.

Prior to joining First Focus, Madeline worked as a Staff Assistant at the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. Working alongside leaders in children’s health, children’s nutrition, and education, Madeline supported staff with a broad portfolio of oversight and disability policy issues. She was especially active in the Committee’s oversight of for-profit education companies.

Before moving to Washington, DC to work on Capitol Hill, Madeline worked as a reporter in the Twin Cities. She followed local government and politics as a press fellow for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, and art and culture as a public radio reporter. Madeline's coverage included the 2010 general election and subsequent Minnesota gubernatorial recount. She also blogged for the Twin Cities Business Magazine in a project exploring the relationship between health care and business communities.

Madeline volunteers in the District and across the country connecting small non-profits to stakeholders and new audiences by designing and developing easy-to-maintain websites. She also volunteers her time at the Capital Area Food Bank and Martha's Table. She's also led two fundraising projects to supply books to an underfunded English classroom and elementary school library.

Madeline graduated cum laude from the University of Minnesota School of Journalism & Mass Communication with a degree in journalism/strategic communications. She is currently taking pre-nursing classes at Johns Hopkins University.
