This webinar will focus on immigrant victims of domestic violence who face serious consequences in family law court, including losing custody, initiation of a child abuse/neglect case, or permanent termination of parental rights as a result of being detained or deported. The webinar will provide an overview of the underlying family law issues and child welfares system challenges that can arise in such cases and discuss the abuser’s role in reporting immigration status.
Participants will also learn best practices and legal strategies for attorneys and advocates representing and working with immigrant victims on these cases. This is an interactive training, and participants will be invited to ask questions and share their own experiences as a result of working on these cases. Training materials, including a sample family law trial brief and motions, and other helpful materials will be provided as part of the webinar.
