Meghan McHugh is the Vice President for Nutrition, Housing and State Partnerships at First Focus. In this position, Ms. McHugh’s portfolio is heavily focused on federal investment in economic supports, such as housing and nutrition assistance. In addition, Meghan works closely with the First Focus state partners to assist and coordinate the state partners’ advocacy and legislative efforts on multiple issues that include, but are not limited to, child health, nutrition, family economics, and tax and budget policy.
Prior to joining First Focus, Ms. McHugh served as a Legislative Correspondent and Scheduler to Congresswoman Betty McCollum, who represents St. Paul, Minnesota. While working for Congresswoman McCollum, Ms. McHugh’s portfolio included education, arts and humanities, immigration, and foreign affairs. In her most recent position as Scheduler, she worked closely to brief the Congresswoman and senior staff on day-to-day operations, and assisted with strategic planning and priorities for the office.
Ms. McHugh is a native of Minnesota and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Political Science. Ms. McHugh’s commitment to children goes beyond her work at First Focus in her work as a volunteer with philanthropic organizations in the Washington, DC area. Since moving to Washington she has worked most closely with Horton’s Kids, an organization that supplies mentorship, education and health assistance to some of DC’s most disadvantaged children.
